Grammar is the important aspect to be mastered in English especially for students in junior high school. Unfortunately, most of students have difficulties in grammar especially to arrange the sentence they just know vocabulary but they do not know how to arrange the sentence to be good. The teacher chooses grammar-translation method as an alternative way to improve students’ skill especially grammar skill. The aim of this research to find teaching present continuous tense through grammar translation method (a field research at SMP PGRI Batuceper) in academic year 2019/2020.  This study used descriptive qualitative method and the data were collected by analysis the students. The result of this research shows that: (1) the students get better to arrange the sentence present continuous tense. (2) The grammar translation method is very useful to help students to know the meaning in sentences. (3) Students can analysis basic grammar. It can be concluded that grammar translation method is an effective way to improve the students’ grammar skill.
