The research focuses on the use of illocutionary acts in the movie script “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2”. The goal of this study is to use Searle's speech act classification to detect and examine the use of illocutionary acts in James Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Descriptive qualitative research was used by the writer. The data from the movie script was divided into five categories: representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declaration speech act and then analyzed them. The writer discovered a total of 118 pieces of information. The most common sort of speech act in character dialogue is representative, which is one of the five categories of speech acts. Predicting, informing, asserting, rejecting, claiming, thinking, and believing are among the 61 data that make up 51.7% of the overall data The directive speech act came next, with 40 utterances (33.9% of all illocutionary speech act utterances) being used. Commanding, advising, asking, ordering, requesting, and proposing are the main directive speech acts employed in the movie script. Around 10 utterances, or 8.5% of the total data, used the commissive speech act. The following words are used in this movie script to commit the speaker to do something in the future: offering, committing and promising. There are 7 utterances of expressive speech act, accounting for 5.9% of the total data include; apologizing, thanking, and regretting. While for the declaration speech act, the writer did not find any utterances from the three main characters were analyzed.
