ABSTRACT

Mai Yudith Kerrine (31180068), The Gender Equality in Mulan (2020) Movie Directed by Niki Caro.

The main objective of this analysis is to understand how important gender equality is in society. Gender equality means that men and women get equal opportunities and rights in all spheres of life. This research contains definitions and the impact of gender equality in Mulan (2020) Movie with a descriptive qualitative method that the writer uses. The writer watched this movie several times and uses theories from books. After analyzing the movie, the writer found the kinds of gender equality in this movie, such as: (1) Equal position in society, (2) Gender equality gives everyone equal opportunities. The writer also analyse how the main character breaks the gender inequality in this movie, such as (1) Revealing her identity, (2) With her loyalty, and the last one is (3) With her strong determination. Mulan is unable to show her martial arts skills because of the societal stereotype that women only bring honor through marriage, no one will want to marry a woman like Mulan. In the end, Mulan was able to break that stereotype, she brought the honor of saving the emperor and the imperial city as a female warrior.

Tujuan utama dari analisis ini adalah untuk memahami betapa pentingnya kesetaraan gender dalam masyarakat. Kesetaraan gender adalah ketika laki-laki dan perempuan mendapatkan kesempatan dan hak yang sama di segala bidang kehidupan. Penelitian ini berisi tentang definisi dan dampak kesetaraan gender dalam Film Mulan (2020) dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang penulis gunakan. Penulis menonton film ini beberapa kali dan menggunakan teori dari buku. Setelah menganalisis film tersebut, penulis menemukan jenis-jenis kesetaraan gender seperti: (1) Kedudukan yang setara dalam masyarakat, (2) Kesetaraan gender memberikan semua orang kesempatan yang sama. Penulis juga menganalisis bagaimana tokoh utama mendobrak kesetaraan gender dalam film ini, seperti: (1) Mengungkap identitasnya, (2) Dengan kesetiaannya, dan yang terakhir adalah (3) Dengan tekad yang kuat. Dalam film ini, Mulan tidak bisa menunjukkan kemahirannya dalam seni bela diri karena stereotip masyarakat bahwa wanita hanya membawa kehormatan melalui pernikahan, tidak ada yang mau menikahi wanita seperti Mulan. Pada akhirnya, Mulan mampu mematahkan stereotip itu, dia membawa kehormatan menyelamatkan kaisar dan kota kekaisaran sebagai pejuang wanita.
