Abstrak

Translation has been considered a significant role for a long time. With a different grammatical system in each language, it can be found that there are word shifts in the translation. In accordance with the theory of (Catford, 1965:73), shifts in the translation are classified into two types: Level Shifts and Category Shifts. This analysis only focuses on Structure Shifts and Unit Shifts that fall under Category Shifts. This study aims to determine the Structure Shift and Unit Shift that occurs in nouns from an English-Indonesian short story Bawang Merah Bawang Putih, by EF Blog. The analytical method used is descriptive-qualitative. In analyzing the data, research passed several processes. First, read the entire short story. Second, mark the nouns found in the short story. Lastly, categorizing nouns into shifts accompanied by explanations. This study found thirty nouns, some of which belong to noun phrases. The study's results found that unit shifts were more dominant (60%) and were followed by structure shifts (40%). The research's findings may be helpful as an additional guideline for a study of a similar kind.
