Cooperative Language Learning (CLL) Method in Teaching Vocabulary and Word [removed]A Field Research in 278 Junior High School Jakarta)

Abstrak

The need for fundamental English learning, focusing on vocabulary, was observed during teaching at SMP Negeri 278 Jakarta. Challenges arose due to the abrupt shift caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to adaptations in the 2022 academic year. Initiation of a friendly learning atmosphere, introducing familiar expressions and assessing vocabulary through games and song analysis. The Cooperative Language Learning (CLL) method is applied by focusing on group discussions for effectiveness. This method was implemented across 3 classes: 8C, 8D, and 8E, resulting in significant improvements. At the outset, there were difficulties highlighted in the initial assessment, including 2 students receiving a "Failed" range (under 54) in the 8E class, and a significant portion falling within the "Poor" range (55-64) across 3 classes. Nevertheless, during the terminal assessment, significant improvements were evident across all 3 classes, with scores spanning from "Acceptable" (65-79) to "Excellent" (90-100), signalling considerable advancement.
