TEACHER’S STRATEGY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS VOCABULARY AT SMP NEGERI 27 DEPOK

Abstrak

Vocabulary is one of the important aspects in English. Without proper vocabulary, the
topic area of students would be getting difficult or blunt. At school, students are able
to express and to convey their particular ideas by using a proper and suitable
vocabulary. However, it becomes the phenomena as the background of this study
which shows that, mostly students have lack or getting not enough vocabulary
collection in their previous school. Regarding to that issue beforehand, there are so
many papers, publications, or articles claiming the urgency and importance of having
suitable vocabulary in learning English. Moreover, the writer focuses on how to
implement strategy in teaching as the current topic. This study aims to find out the
teacher's strategies to improve students' vocabulary at SMP Negeri 27 Depok. The
sample of this research is 34 students; divided into two classes, A and B class. This
research is categorized as the case-study research by conducting a descriptive
qualitative method. The steps that writer collects the data by observing and
interviewing both students and teachers as well. As a result of this study of applying
the strategy implemented by the teacher as follows: (1) students feel alive, enthusiastic,
and more active in the classroom, (2) students are able to add or gain their new
vocabulary understanding, (3) students are able to sharpen their abilities in writing
skills as they follow English learning effectively.
