Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka is a policy of the Kemendikbud-Dikti to prepare students for social, cultural, technological, and occupational changes. It is an autonomous and flexible learning process that aims to bring about culture, creative, innovative, unbridled, and in accordance with the needs of students who have a one semester learning right outsite the program. The Amati Research Program is an independent, problem-based study for which students from universities and across departments form a team that can deliver sustainable tourism to sustainable systems of design thinking. This study examines the development of rural tourism in Indonesia, using a qualitative analysis method based on content analysis and literature review analysis. The digitization of tourism in tourism villages can lead to many benefits, such as facilitating access to information, minimizing costs, and increasing income. The study explored the nature of digital transformation in rural areas and reflected on opportunities and challenges for small and medium sized enterprises in rural tourism areas. Digital infrastructure is the foundation for digital innovation, and equal access to infrastructure is essential for bridging the urban-rural digital divide. Initiatives that take a company-centred approach and promote mutually beneficial collaboration are needed to support tourism villages in rural areas to engage with digitalisation.
