Improving student’s ability in writing descriptive text through picture

Formal education in Indonesia has English as foreign language lesson to be studied in schools. Writing is one of the four language skills. Descriptive writing appeals to the senses, so it tells how something looks, feels, smells, tastes, and/or sounds. A good description is a word picture; the reader can imagine the object, place, or person in his or her mind. The writer uses pictures as a media to teach writing descriptive. The writer uses descriptive qualitative methods to determine the ability to write descriptive text. The purpose of descriptive qualitative research is to reveal events or facts, circumstances, phenomena, variables and circumstances that occurred during the study by presenting what actually happened. The main subjects of this research are the teacher and seventh grade students. Using pictures can make students not boring in learning writing English. Students can improve their writing skills by using pictures as a fun learning medium. Pictures increase student motivation in making descriptive paragraphs.
