Jon M. Chu
The purpose of this paper is to understand cultural and ethnic differences, cultural and ethnic
types, cultural and ethnic conflicts, and moral messages. Culture is a norm that existed for a
group of people who developed and passed down generations from generation to generation.
Film is one example of popular media that is able to display entertainment containing culture
and ethnicity that audiences can use to discover the value of cultured life. Inter-cultural and
ethnic conflict can be interpreted as an identity that stems from the prejudice of traditional
Asians towards Asian-Americans. The author used descriptive qualitative theory to analyze
cultural and ethnic types in the film Crazy Rich Asians. The result of the analysis is that the
authors found four cultures in the film, they are, Language, Familial Roles, Family Ties,
Grooming and Present. The author also discovered three types of conflicts contained in the
film, namely: Inter-personal Conflict, Family Conflict, and Inter-group Conflict.
