ABSTRACT

Bonita Narulita (31170133), Anorexia of Main Character in To the Bone Movie Directed by Marti Noxon

 

The objective of this study is to know about the symptoms and the cause of anorexia of main character in To the Bone movie also the treatment to its recovery. The writer chooses To the Bone movie because the movie uses anorexia as the theme of movie. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method for analyze the novel. The data are analyzed using the anorexia theory from Pamela I. Swain. The results of this analysis are (1) The symptoms of anorexia in main character are always wear baggy clothes, weight less than 85 percent normal, downy hair grows in arms, extremely low-calorie diet, compulsive exercise, refuse for not eating, and the absence of menstrual cycles; (2) The causes of anorexia in main character are because a family problem and her mother postpartum depression; (3) The treatments of anorexia in main character are refeeding and psychotherapy counseling.
