Rosselia Cika Prahastian (31170138), SLANG USED IN A STAR IS BORN MOVIE DIRECTED BY BRADLEY COOPER

 

The increasing amount of people using English in their daily live makes the writer interested to do the analyze. In the use of English, people definitely learn the use of  slang in English. There are no restrictions on the use of slang. The use of slang is to convey messages, which it can be known by anyone else, or some circle. The writer takes the example from  A Star Is Born movie in which the movie also uses slang in their daily conversation. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method for analyze the film. The data are analyzed using the type of slang theory based on Kipfer & Chapman. The result indicates that every data possess different type of slang. The writer founds two types of slang that is used in A Star Is Born movie, there are primary slang and secondary slang. Primary slang is a type of slang that commonly used in daily conversation. Meanwhile, secondary slang is a type of slang that rarely used in daily conversation and it is often used by some circle.

Meningkatnya jumlah orang yang menggunakan bahasa Inggris dalam kehidupan sehari-hari membuat penulis tertarik untuk melakukan analisa. Dalam penggunaan bahasa Inggris, orang pasti belajar penggunaan bahasa gaul dalam bahasa Inggris. Tidak ada batasan dalam penggunaan bahasa gaul. Penggunaan bahasa gaul digunakan untuk menyampaikan pesan, yang dapat diketahui oleh orang lain, atau kalangan tertentu. Penulis mengambil contoh dari film A Star Is Born di mana film ini juga menggunakan bahasa gaul dalam percakapan sehari-hari. Penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisis film. Data dianalisis menggunakan teori bahasa gaul berdasarkan Kipfer & Chapman. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa setiap data memiliki berbagai jenis bahasa gaul. Penulis menemukan dua jenis bahasa gaul yang digunakan dalam film A Star Is Born, ada bahasa gaul primer dan bahasa gaul sekunder. Bahasa gaul primer adalah jenis bahasa gaul yang umum digunakan dalam percakapan sehari-hari. Sementara itu, bahasa gaul sekunder adalah jenis bahasa gaul yang jarang digunakan dalam percakapan sehari-hari dan lebih sering digunakan oleh beberapa kalangan.
