TRANSLATION PROCEDURES IN MIDNIGHT SUN NOVEL BY STEPHENIE MEYER

The objective of this research is to know the procedures of translation from The Translation
Procedures in Midnight Sun Novel which is written By Stephenie Meyer. In this paper, the writer
uses descriptive method. The data are collected from libraries and browsing from internet about
the theories about translation from some experts. In this paper, the procedures of translation in
analyzing the novel is using Newmark’s translation procedures. From the result of the analysis,
the writer finds the translation procedures that use in the process of translation. Then, knowing
what is the dominant procedures which translator uses. Translation procedure as follows technical
procedure, organizational procedures, and the translation procedure by newmark are transference,
naturalization, cultural equivalent, functional equivalent, descriptive equivalent, componential
analysis, synonymy, through-translation, shift or transpositions, modulation, recognized
translation, compensation, paraphrase, couplets, and notes. Translation procedures can have a
significant impact on the translated text. The translator should be able to choose the most
appropriate and suitable procedure to be applied during the translation process. The use of
translation procedures must also be accompanied by an understanding of the source language text
and the source cultural references so that the translated text remains true to the writer's intentions.

 

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui prosedur penerjemahan dari novel Midnight
Sun yang ditulis oleh Stephenie Meyer. Beberapa data diambil dari perpustakaan dan pencarian
melalui internet mengenai teori tentang penerjemahan dari beberapa ahli. Di dalam penelitian
ini, prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan untuk menganalisis novel menggunakan prosedur
penerjemahan milik Newmark. Dari hasil analisis, penulis menemukan prosedur yang digunakan
dalam proses penerjemahan. Lalu, mengetahui prosedur yang dominan yang penerjemah
gunakan. Prosedur penerjemahan meliputi technical procedure, organizational procedures, and
the Prosedur penerjemahan dari newmark adalah transference, naturalization, cultural

paraphrase, couplets, dan notes. Prosedur penerjemahan dapat memberikan pengaruh yang
signifikan terhadap teks terjemahan yang dihasilkan. Penerjemah harus bisa memilih prosedur
yang paling tepat dan yang paling cocok untuk diterapkan saat proses penerjemahan. Penggunaan
prosedur penerjemahan juga harus disertai dengan pemahaman tentang teks bahasa sumber dan
referensi budaya sumber sehingga teks yang diterjemahkan tetap sesuai dengan maksud
penulisnya.
