“Oppenheimer’s contribution to ushering in the nuclear age as ‘father of the atomic bomb’ cemented his legacy as an iconic figure of the twentieth century. After the Second World War, he enjoyed great prestige both within parts of the US government as well as in the media, developing celebrity status.” (Borghi, 2019).  This final paper titled "Inside the Shoes of Dr. Oppenheimer through the Lens of Sigmund Freud," investigates the personality dimensions of Dr. Oppenheimer's character using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. The background of this research addresses the need to understand complex characters in literature and film through established psychological frameworks. The goal of this study is to explore how Freud's concepts of the id, ego, and superego illuminate Oppenheimer's personality development and inner conflicts. The objectives include analyzing key scenes from the 2023 film Oppenheimer to reveal the protagonist’s personality intricacies and how his internal struggles shape his actions and decisions. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the research involves a detailed examination of the film's narrative and character interactions to assess Oppenheimer’s personality development. The results demonstrate a profound alignment between Freud's theoretical constructs and the protagonist’s experiences, illustrating how his unconscious desires, moral conflicts, and societal pressures influence his behavior. The conclusion highlights the efficacy of Freudian psychoanalysis in offering deeper insights into the character’s complexities, affirming the method's value in analyzing psychological themes in both literary and cinematic contexts.
