Return 2022: Psychoanalysis Perspective

The literature titled “Sibling Goals in the Perspective of Psychoanalysis of Children

in The Railway Children Return (2022) examines the concept of sibling goals,

defined as supportive and harmonious sibling relationships characterized by

consistent togetherness. This study aims to (1) describe the psychological

interactions among the child characters in The Railway Children Return, (2)

identify psychoanalytic factors that influence their goals and behaviors as siblings,

and (3) explain how sibling relationships contribute to the characters’ psychological

development and sense of identity. This study or research employs a descriptive

qualitative method by collecting, identifying, and describing the characters’

utterances and actions in the film that reflect sibling goals and dynamics. The

findings show that the purposes of sibling interaction include mutual protection

and the provision of security, the formation of a new family structure, and the

cultivation of kindness. The psychoanalytic factors identified consist of drives or

desires, anxiety, and emotional attachment. In addition, sibling relationships that

support psychological development are reflected through Lily’s role as a substitute

mother and the shared courage among the characters.
