ENHANCING STUDENTS' INTEREST IN LEARNING ENGLISH USING INTERACTIVE LESSON STRATEGIES: A CASE STUDY AT SMK INFORMATIKA SUMEDANG

The objective of this study is to enhance students' interest in learning English by implementing interactive learning strategies at SMK Informatika Sumedang. The prevailing issue that has been identified pertains to the waning interest exhibited by students in pursuing English language acquisition, a phenomenon that can be attributed to the monotonous nature of the pedagogical methodologies employed, which appear to fall short in aligning with the diverse learning requirements of the students. The present study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, implementing three interactive strategies: Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Small Group Discussion (SGD), and Think-Pair-Share (TPS). These strategies were utilized across three distinct classes. The data were collected through observation, documentation records, and oral tests. The findings indicated that the implementation of interactive learning strategies led to a substantial enhancement in student participation and interest levels. Of the three strategies, the SGD method demonstrated the greatest efficacy in enhancing students' engagement and confidence, as evidenced by the increase in post-test scores and the positive responses of the students. Interactive strategies have been shown to facilitate student engagement in the learning process, promote cooperation within groups, and cultivate critical thinking skills. In conclusion, interactive learning has been demonstrated to be an effective strategy for increasing interest in learning English. Furthermore, it has been shown to foster a fun and supportive learning atmosphere.
