Abstract
Akmal Ariya Sandy (44210736 ) “The Role Of The Editor In The Production Of The
Documentary Program “The Favorite Bitter One”
Documentary films are a form of audiovisual work that position the editor as a central
figure in bridging field realities with cinematic narratives. This study examines the
role of the editor in the production of the documentary “Si Pahit yang Favorit”, which
highlights the culture and coffee production process in Lampung. The editor’s
involvement is not limited to post-production but begins during pre-production, by
providing both technical and creative input regarding visual needs, narrative rhythm,
and graphic design elements. During production, the editor contributes to maintaining
visual continuity, while in post-production, the editor is responsible for selecting
footage, arranging storylines, applying color grading, and managing audio design.
The findings reveal that editing is not merely a technical procedure but a creative
interpretation that determines how messages and cultural meanings are conveyed.
Therefore, the editor’s role is essential in producing a documentary that not only
delivers information but also provides an educational and emotional viewing
experience while fostering audience appreciation.
