Abstrak

This research is motivated by the low speaking skills of students in English learning due to the lack of practice opportunities, low motivation, and the lack of interesting contextual learning media. The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of using Instagram Reels as an innovative media to improve fluency, creative expression, and active participation of students in English speaking activities.

The method used is descriptive and qualitative, data collection through observation of the learning process, in-depth interviews with students, and analysis of student Reels videos in two meetings: designers in meeting one, and recording, feedback, and reflection in meeting two.

The results showed that Instagram Reels encouraged students to explore various delivery styles, enrich creative expression, and expand speaking practice outside of formal class hours. Students became more confident in appearing in front of the camera, actively provided peer-to-peer feedback, and showed an increase in the quality of oral production, especially in the use of sentence structure and intonation. Technical barriers such as internet connection and emotional barriers such as shyness were successfully minimized through script guidance and scaffolding. This finding adds a major contribution to the development of online learning media and recommends the addition of Instagram Reels to the speaking learning curriculum.
