Many movies encompass psychological themes, and Wicked is one of them. Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked (2024), a musical fantasy movie adaptation of The Wizard of Oz that explored the backstories of Elphaba and Glinda. Accordingly, this study examines the character development of Elphaba and Glinda in this movie through a psychoanalytic perspective. The goals are to analyze their psychology using Sigmund Freud's theory. The writer utilized a descriptive qualitative method, focusing on analyzing dialogue and scenes from the movie transcript. As a result, the analysis found eight scenes that reflect Freud’s personality structures, including two representing the Id, one the Ego, and five the Superego, which influence the characters' actions. Throughout the story, Elphaba's development, from being alienated to socially accepted and from aloofness to friendship, is influenced by both internal and external factors. Meanwhile, Glinda experienced a development from envy to empathy, demonstrating significant personal development. This thesis provides a reference for understanding character development through a psychological approach and offers academic insight for future literary and psychological analyses.
