Conversational Implicature Analysis in Conveying The Emotional Expression in Ariana Grande’s Selected Songs

Language is the primary human tool for communication, both directly and indirectly, and can convey feelings, messages, and meanings that are deeper than their literal meanings. It is interesting to study a type of indirect communication called conversational implicature. In conversational implicature, the listener can understand what the speaker meant even though they did not say that explicitly. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to collect and analyse data. Data analysis includes reading the lyrics, collecting the lyrics, identifying conversational implicature and interpreting the meaning based on the relevant context. The purpose of this study is to provide a better understanding of the use of conversational implicature in the song lyrics. The result of the analysis show that song lyrics often contain emotional, philosophical or social messages that are not explicitly conveyed, so it is important to analyze conversational implicature to understand the meaning that the singer actually wants to convey. The analysis shows that conversational implicature plays an important role in connecting the singer's personal emotions with the listener, increasing the emotional depth of the song. The results suggest that language is an effective tool for conveying complex emotions in music, forming a deeper connection between singers and listeners.
