Code Mixing in Amanda Rawles's YouTube Video "Hal yang Wajib Aku Bawa Saat Shooting! Virgin Mom Vlog, Last Day"

YouTube videos are one of the most commonly used digital media by public figures to communicate informally, including the use of code mixing. Amanda Rawles, as a bilingual public figure, frequently mixes Indonesian and English in her speech, especially in the vlog titled “Hal yang Wajib Aku Bawa Saat Shooting! Virgin Mom Vlog, Last Day.” This study aims to identify the types of code mixing, the reasons behind its use, and the most dominant type found in the video. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method through observation, transcription, identification, and classification of utterances containing code mixing. The researcher applies Hoffman’s (1991) theory, which divides code mixing into three types: Intra-Sentential, Intra-Lexical, and Involving a Change of Pronunciation. The findings show that there are 29 occurrences of Intra-Sentential Code Mixing (87.9%), 1 occurrence of Intra-Lexical Code Mixing (3.0%), and 3 overlapping occurrences containing both Intra-Sentential and Intra-Lexical (9.1%). No data was found for the type of Involving a Change of Pronunciation (0%). These results indicate that Intra-Sentential Code Mixing is the most dominant type used by Amanda. The reasons for code mixing include discussing particular topics, interjections, emphasizing meaning, and expressing group identity.
