SLANG WORD ANALYSIS ON INSTAGRAM COMMENT FROM CELEBRITY ACCOUNT: SOCIOLINGUISTIC PERSPECTIVE

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze language variation, that is slang, from a sociolinguistic perspective by investigating the relationship between language and society with the aim of gaining a better understanding of language structure and how language functions in communication. This research focuses on the process of categorizing slang words found in the Instagram account comments of celebrities Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. Qualitative descriptive research was used to analyze and present the functions, types of slang words and meanings of the comments found. The author uses the theories of Allan and Burridge, Patridge, Holmes, Sugiyono, and Yule. There are 14 slang words found in celebrity Instagram account posts from April to May 2023, with various types of slang words. The results of this study found that the Acronym type was the most dominating with a total of 6 and the function of slang to form an intimate atmosphere with a total of 4 the most dominating. The meaning of the slang words found in this study varies, mostly including formal and informal words.
