The phenomenon of code-switching has become increasingly common in song lyrics, especially in popular music, as a reflection of bilingual identity and emotional expression. This study aims to identify the types of code-switching and the reasons for its use in the lyrics of Tenxi, a young Indonesian singer. A qualitative descriptive method with a sociolinguistic approach was employed, using Poplack’s (1980) classification to analyze the forms and Desliyanah’s (2024) theory to explore the reasons behind the language switching. The findings reveal that three types of code-switching are present in Tenxi’s songs: intra-sentential, inter-sentential, and tag switching. The use of code-switching is intentional and functions as a communicative and creative strategy to express identity, convey emotion, and engage with a bilingual audience. This study suggests that code-switching in music is not merely a linguistic style, but also a form of cultural representation. The frequent use of intra-sentential switching indicates that Tenxi frequently combines English words, phrases, or clauses directly into Indonesian sentences. The result demonstrates the artist's language versatility and his capacity to connect with audiences used to bilingual settings.
