- EVANDER ZUFAR SETIAWAN
- 2025
This study examines the theme of discrimination against Elphaba, the green-skinned protagonist in Wicked (2024), directed by Jon M. Chu. Through a qualitative analysis of the film's narrative and visual elements, this research explores how Elphaba's Otherness-Marked by her green skin-serves as a metaphor for societal prejudice. The study employs textual analysis and critical race theory to dissect scenes of marginalization, focusing on how the film portrays systemic bias, stereotyping, and resilience. Findings reveal that Wicked critiques real-world discrimination by framing Elphaba's journey as a battle against ingrained social hierarchies. The research concludes that the film's allegory of difference challenges audiences to reconsider norms of beauty, power, and acceptance
