This study investigates the use of deixis in the English dialogues of The Greatest Showman (2017) to explore how it represents the characters’ perspectives and situations. Guided by Levinson’s (1983) theory, the research focuses on five types of deixis: person, place, time, discourse, and social deixis. A qualitative descriptive method was applied, with data collected through transcription and close analysis of the film’s dialogues. Each deixis type was identified, classified, and interpreted in its narrative and social context. The findings show that person deixis is the most dominant, emphasizing the characters’ identities, roles, and personal viewpoints. Social deixis illustrates power relations and social distance, while place and time deixis help orient the audience within the story’s physical and temporal settings. Discourse deixis contributes to the coherence and flow of conversation. Overall, the research concludes that deixis plays a crucial role not only in guiding reference but also in expressing emotions, revealing character dynamics, and enhancing audience engagement. Thus, deixis functions as both a linguistic and narrative tool in shaping meaning within the cinematic discourse of the film.
