Swift Folklore Album
This research takes a closer look at the figurative language used in Taylor Swift’s Folklore album through a linguistic lens. Figurative language helps make song lyrics more expressive and meaningful, often revealing deeper emotions and themes. By using Geoffrey Leech’s theory on the types and functions of figurative language, this study analyzes selected songs from the album to identify what kinds of figurative expressions are used, what they mean in context, and what purpose they serve. The research follows a descriptive qualitative approach and applies both semantic and pragmatic analysis to understand how language shapes the storytelling in Swift’s lyrics. The results show that figurative language in Folklore plays an important role in expressing personal feelings, building narratives, and making social commentary. This study offers valuable insights into the relationship between language and music, and how lyrics can be both artistic and meaningful from a linguistic point of view.
