ABSTRACT

Della Kristia (33210090), The Ideology of Constructed Feminism in ‘The Dive’ Movie

The Dive is a survival-thriller movie that portrays two female characters in extreme life-threatening situations. This study aims to analyze how the ideology of feminism is constructed through the characters and narrative structure in the movie. The research focuses on the representation of women and the application of Simon de Beauvoir’s Existentialist Feminism theory. Using a descriptive qualitive method, the movie is examined through scenes, dialogues, and character actions. The findings reveal four major representation of women: as existential subjects, in relation to their bodies, as rejectors of gender stereotypes, and through sisterhood. Furthermore, the study identifies four characteristics of independent women based on Simon de Beauvoir’s theory: Go to Work, Be Intellectual, Achieve a Socialist Transformation of Society, and Transcend Its Boundaries. These findings indicate that The Dive challenges traditional gender roles by portraying women as rational, resilient, and autonomous beings. The feminist ideology in the movie is constructed subtly through emotional strength, personal freedom, and mutual solidarity, making it a significant object of feminist media study.
