The film Anyone but You (2023) presents a depiction of gender roles through the contrasting characteristics of its main characters, Bea and Ben. This study explores how masculinity and femininity are constructed and performed in the film by applying Judith Butler’s theory of Gender Performativity. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research examines selected scenes, dialogues, and character interactions to analyze how gender norms are maintained, challenged, or reshaped within a modern romantic comedy context. The results show that the film reflects both the reinforcement and the resistance of traditional gender expectations: male characters are portrayed with emotional transparency and vulnerability, while female characters appear assertive and independent, opposing passive gender stereotypes. Overall, the study demonstrates that Anyone but You represents gender roles as fluid and adaptable, shaped by social contexts and interactions, and contributes to a broader understanding of gender representation in contemporary popular media.
