Alfi Nurwondo (33210027 ), The Psychological Problems of Wanda Maximoff as Antagonist Character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of  Madness Movie Directed by Sam Raimi.

Grief is an emotional response towards loss, and it is typically accompanied by psychological effects such as trauma, delusion, and identity crisis. For this study, the author is referring to the character Wanda Maximoff in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) who loses her children, making her become an antagonist. The objective of this study is to explain how grief and trauma influence Wanda's psychological status and behavior. This research is qualitative descriptive method following Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's Five Stages of Grief theory—denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance—and backed by Abraham Maslow's theory of love and belonging. Through the analysis, the author found that Wanda exhibits all stages of grief in different scenes of the movie. She also shows symptoms of psychological problems such as obsession, emotional instability, lack of empathy, and moral disorientation. Her actions are driven by an abject need to fulfill emotional needs that were never met since she lost the individual she loved. In conclusion, this research demonstrates how trauma and loss lead to a breakdown in psychological problems as evidenced by the transformation of Wanda from being a heroine to the Scarlet Witch.
