Figurative language in the kite runner novel: a semantic study

Figurative language is a part of semantics, which is one of the branches of meaning-based linguistic studies. Novels are one of the media utilized to analyze this aspect of figurative language. This study aims to identify the figurative language utilized in the novel 'The Kite Runner' written by Khaled Hosseini and to determine the dominant figurative language used throughout the novel. The study employs a qualitative descriptive methodology, based on the theories of Perrine regarding dominant figurative language. The result revealed figurative language are Metaphor (11 Phrase), Simile (24 Phrase), Personification(7 Phrase), Synecdoche (7 Phrase), Metonymy (10 Phrase), Paradox (3 Phrase), Symbol(3 Phrase), Allegory(1 Phrase), Hyperbole(5 Phrase), Apostrophe(2 Phrase), Understatement (1 Phrase),Irony(1 Phrase).The dominant types of figurative language in novel The Kite Runner is Simile.
