The purpose of this study was to improving of the SQ4R Strategy, namely Survey, Question, Recite, Record and Review in teaching English reading properly and correctly. This report focuses on teach students how to read well and the easiest way to learn with the SQ4R strategy. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. The researcher use recount text as the material of learning. The data has analyzed through several instruments including observation, test and interview. The researched conducted in Perguruan Rakyat 1 Junior High School consists of 32 students which is 16 is man student and 16 is woman student.The result of the research shows the improvement after using SQ4R strategy. There are 32,44% students who improve their reading ability in recount text. SQ4R is good strategy in teaching recount text in reading. And also student more enthusiastic with SQ4R Strategy. Moreover, in learning with SQ4R Strategy student more fun and helpful to understand the material.
Finally, SQ4R strategy can acceptable in reading recount text to student.
