This study will analyze the film titled Maleficent (2014) directed by Robert Stromberg. The film deals with the personality change that Maleficent, the protagonist of Maleficent, undergoes herself. In this film, Maleficent is set to change in personality from an antagonist to a protagonist so it is very interesting to explore this process of change, especially the factors behind the change. Therefore, the personality development theory proposed by Elizabeth Hurlock will be used to analyze the factors behind the change. This study uses a qualitative method. The purpose of this study is to give readers new insight into how character change can occur in movies and in everyday life and what factors lead to character change. In addition, this study helps provide the author with personal experience to discuss the study of personality change and provides a useful resource for students, scholars, and movie fans to learn more about the creative process and character analysis in movies. The findings of this study are divided into two parts: the first is Maleficent’s personality before and after development using Harlock’s personality development theory and the second is the factors that influence Maleficent’s personality change, namely intellectual factors, emotional factors, and sexual factors.
