Abstrak

This study aims to analyze metaphors and semantics in NIKI’s songs using a semantic approach. The focus of this research is on four songs by NIKI: “Backburner”, “Oceans and Engines”, “Milk Teeth”, and “Anaheim”. The method used is qualitative to identify the meanings embedded in NIKI’s works and quantify the number of metaphors and types of semantics used in these songs. The findings reveal seven types of metaphors NIKI uses: Extended, Structural, Ontological, Orientational, Abstract, Conventional, and Anthropomorphic Metaphor. Abstract Metaphors are the most frequently used 69,09%, 36,75% Orientational Metaphors, 32,34% Extended Metaphors, 30,87% Structural Metaphors, 23,52% Conventional Metaphors, 17,64% Ontological Metaphors, and 5,88% Anthropomorphic Metaphors. In terms of semantics, Descriptive Semantics are the most frequently used 40,67%, Behavioral Semantics 19,92%, Philosophical and Lexical Semantics 3,32%, and Historical Semantics with 1,66%. This research contributes to understanding the use of metaphors and semantics in the context of modern music art, particularly in NIKI’s works, and its implications for interpreting meanings and listener experience
