Rahmi Naomisa (33200161), Exploring Speech Acts in the Discourse of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Movie

This study examines the types of speech acts using John Searle‟s theory in a cinematic context. This research aims to identify five types of speech acts in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Movie. The research was conducted on 137 utterances from several characters simultaneously containing speech acts using qualitative research methods. The research finding reveals: (1) There are five types of speech acts used by characters in the movie, including, directive, expressive, declarative, commissive, and representative; (2) Representative speech acts are the type most frequently used, followed by directive, expressive, commissive, and the last and least common type is declarative. Representative speech acts are speech that are often used in everyday life compared to other types, like explaining, giving information, providing facts, and giving opinions. The two findings increase understanding of the use of speech acts as an element of communication and also serve as a basis for further research.
