ABSTRACT

Dita Mawar Hadi (33190002), Analysis of empowerment and representation : "The positive effect of Korean Wave on gender and ethnic identities in Indonesia."

 

This thesis explores the impact of the Korean Wave (Hallyu) on gender and ethnic identities among Indonesian adolescents, focusing specially on K-Dramas, K-pop, and K-beauty. Drawing on social contructivistm, social identity, gender performativity, and cultural pluralism theories, the research aims to examine how Korean culture can reshape social norms in Indonesia. The influence of Hallyu in Indonesia also provides opportunities for Indonesian youth to engage with Korean culture and develope progressive views on gender and ethnicity. Digital platforms also play a crusial role in expanding Hallyu's influence in Indonesia and providing Indonesian youth with opportunities to engage with Korean culture, fostering progressive views on gender and ethnicity. In terms of etchic identity. The integration of diverse cultural elements in K-dramas and K-pop promotes global connectivity. Collaborations between the Korean and Indonesian industries further enhance cultural exchange through joint events, reinforcing mutual appreciation.
