Abstrak

This study examines Bayard Rustin's role in changing the history of civil rights in the United States, focusing on the racism and homophobia he faced in Washington. Utilizing qualitative research methods and Critical Race Theory, this study analyzes Rustin's representation in the film "RUSTIN" as the primary data source. The film provides in-depth insights into Rustin's experiences as a gay African-American activist who played a central role in organizing the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. By applying Critical Race Theory, the study explores the intersection of racism and homophobia and their impact on Rustin's activism. The findings highlight how Rustin navigated dual discrimination and remained a key figure in social change, contributing significantly to our understanding of power dynamics and the struggle for justice. The
results affirm the importance of an intersectional approach in studying civil rights history and activism.
