Language is a tool for daily basic communication to express ideas, thoughts, and feelings that can be found in various forms of masterpieces. Figurative language is one of the semantic components in linguistics used in masterpieces to beautify the work created. The aims of this study include analyzing, investigating, and finding the use of the most dominant types of figurative language in Taylor Swift’s “1989” album. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data through song lyrics analysis. The song lyrics in the album “1989” are dominated by the use of imagery (22,72%), followed by metaphor (21,59%), symbolism (17,04%), hypebole (9,09%), personification (7,95%), repetition (7,95%), alliteration (5,28), simile (4,54%), irony (1,13%), oxymoron (1,13%). Through the literary devices used in Taylor Swift’s “1989” album, it provides a creative, imaginative, and expressive narrative to convey a feeling and message in the song lyrics so that listeners can feel the meaning in the song lyrics in the album 1989.
