1. The purpose of this research is to enhance the reading comprehension of eighth-grade students at SMP Era Pembangunan 3 through the implementation of pre-reading tasks. Many students struggle with limited vocabulary, low reading interest, and unsnagging teaching methods, which impede their ability to fully comprehend texts. This research using classroom action research (CAR) approach, this study involved 36 eighth-grade students and utilized a pre-test and post-test design to measure the effectiveness of pre-reading tasks. The research was conducted in three stages: a pre-test to assess students’ initial reading skills, an intervention using pre-reading tasks, and a post-test to evaluate progress. Descriptive texts served as the primary teaching material, and activities such as brainstorming and activating prior knowledge were introduced to prepare students for reading tasks. The results reveal a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension and engagement. Prior to the intervention, only 19% of students met the minimum competency standard, whereas post-test results showed an increase to 77%. The use of pre-reading tasks proved effective in addressing common challenges like vocabulary limitations and lack of motivation, fostering active participation and better understanding of texts. This study concludes that pre-reading tasks are an effective strategy for improving reading comprehension. It recommends that teachers incorporate such methods to create dynamic and engaging learning environments, and encourages students to actively participate in reading activities to enrich their vocabulary and comprehension skills.
