This research explores the use of figurative language and lexical relations in Taylor Swift’s album Midnights. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the study analyzes five selected songs, which are “Anti-Hero”, “Lavender Haze”, “Midnight Rain”, “You’re on Your Own, Kid”, and “Bejeweled” to identify how semantic devices enrich lyrical meaning. There are 18 instances of figurative language and 11 lexical relations were found, including metaphors, similes, hyperboles, personification, and irony, as well as lexical relations such as synonymy, antonymy, hyponymy, polysemy, and hypernymy. The findings show that figurative language is used to convey complex emotions, abstract concepts, and deeply personal experiences in a creative and poetic manner. Meanwhile, lexical relations enhance this by building connections between words and meanings, offering multiple layers of interpretation. This interplay creates a rich semantic landscape that invites listeners to explore the deeper meanings behind each lyric. The study concludes that the integration of figurative language and lexical relations in Midnights not only elevates Taylor Swift’s songwriting artistry but also demonstrates how semantics can be effectively applied in modern music analysis. This research contributes to the field of linguistics by encouraging the examination of popular media as a meaningful site for semantic study.
